Ethereal Valentino fills the City of Love with romanticism
26 JANUARY 2012Experienced Italian seamstresses – nicknamed the ‘petites mains’ – had spent 850 hours on one dress. And another frock had taken a staggering 1,200 hours.
But the result of their painstaking labour was certainly worth it.
The ethereal Valentino show which closed the Paris catwallks was couture at its finest.
Models swept by in ivory gowns featuring bridal-like qualities with lavish layers of tulle, gauze Chantilly lace and organza.

Sprinkled with silver beading and boasting floral prints hidden under sheets of luxurious fabrics, the attention to detail paid by Italian design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli was astonishing.
The collection depended almost entirely on white – something that was broken up in the last spring-summer collection with flashes of scarlet.
“Yes, there is no red, and it was a complete accident,” said Maria backstage. “I woke up this morning and realised: Oh dear, I forgot the red!”
